I bought a 6v 4.5Ah dry type battery powered electric ride-on car for a friends kid. If I wanted to extend the length of time the charge would last what would be the best way to go about it without obviously harming the existing 6v motor? I can find similar ride-on car batteries rated for 7Ah or would adding a second battery be more effective? Thanks for any advice.

You can either replace the battery you have with one with the same voltage, but higher capacity (amp*hour rating) or you can get more than one IDENTICAL battery (same voltage and capacity) and connect them in parallel. So if you were to get two fresh 6V 4.5 Ah batteries and place them in parallel, you would still get the 6V output (meaning, you wouldn't burn the motor) and at the same time have double the capacity (meaning, about 9Ah). If you are going to connect more than one identical battery in parallel make sure that they have the same voltage (by actually measuring it using a multimeter) before you place them in parallel.
